A Timeline of the Past Year & What The Labour Government Has Achieved
So Far... & The Future

First Steps To Make Britain Great Again!
Put the British People First, restore our Country to its former glory days.
We must restore Britain, and what we've lost, give us all some real hope, for us and our future generations to come.
We must do what needs to be done - on immigration, crime, deportations and more.
The Labour Party won the Election on the 4th July 2024; they now need to win the trust of the British People.
The British People have been left with a broken Britain, caused by not being listened to and by the broken promises of the Previous Government.
They don’t want to see a Watering down or disappearance of the promises in the Manifesto now that Labour is in Power, as that is all we have had for 14 years with the last Government.
The Citizens don't want any more U-Turns, as so far, the Government have had to U-turn on the Winter Fuel Payments after they removed it last year, and on the removal of benefits for those who are on long-term benefits payments like PIP … these were not mentioned in the Manifesto.
We can't blame the Labour Party for what has gone before they;
The Labour Party took over as the New Government on the 4th July 2024. We can only judge what they have done so far and what they will do in the future. They have now been in power for a year, as of the 4th July 2025. The Labour Government is now starting year 2.
The Government must earn the trust of the British Citizens by listening to how they feel and what they need from the Government. Or they will lose the trust of the British Citizens at their peril, as the British Citizens have shown how they feel when their Lifestyles and Families are threatened.
Words mean nothing unless they are turned into actions which turn around the lifestyles thrust on the British Public, by the previous Government, who don’t want a return to austerity. They want to be sure that their lives will be rebuilt, not empty promises.
The Labour Party must work with the British People, not against them. We need a government that will put the needs of the Citizens of Britain first.
The Labour Government must remember the following that Britain belongs to the British People! Not to Migrants who have come to the UK illegally.
The British People deserve a safe, secure, stable future where they can dream and build a future for themselves and their families.
They need to be a priority, not an afterthought. They shouldn’t be pushed to the back of the queue
So the Migrants who came to Britain illegally should not be given Priority Treatment.
They should not be first in the queue for medical treatment; they should wait like every other patient has to.
They should not jump the queue and be housed before British Citizens who have been on waiting lists for a long time.
The British Citizens see Migrants just being housed as soon as they arrive in Hotels, and being given games consoles, they are fed 3 times a day, and there have been reports of asylum seekers, including children, being taken on day trips and engaging in recreational activities organised by charities and volunteer groups. These activities are aimed at providing social interaction, improving well-being, and offering a break from the often challenging circumstances of asylum accommodation
These activities can include games, sports, and outings to local attractions.
The purpose of these days out is to provide social interaction, combat isolation, and offer a chance for asylum seekers to relax and have fun, but the British Citizens who have to work to provide for themselves and young children, some who are in housing that is overcrowded or living in a hotel room or bedsit while waiting for months sometimes years on the waiting list, can't afford to take their Children out for even one day. And they say that Migrants may be facing difficult circumstances in their accommodation, but The Migrants chose to come to the UK illegally in a boat, which they paid for.
Most are working-age men who have probably disposed of any identification when they crossed the English Channel. The main reason for them to come to the UK is the free Housing & benefits they are told they can get. By others in their Country or the People Smugglers they pay to come over to the UK by Boat.
So if they wanted to claim Asylum, which is the protection granted by a nation to someone who has left their country of origin due to well-founded fear of persecution. (which can be based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group).
Then they wouldn't throw away evidence of where they have just come from. And they would also have just gone to a Country nearby that was safe.
So the British Citizens, I have spoken to, say that they should all go back to their Country of origin, as they came across to the UK illegally and paid the criminals who supplied the boat. So they had money when they came across. Some have also said they should also have to pay for the cost of keeping them in the Hotels and for feeding them, and that they should have to pay for Healthcare, as those who visit the UK from EU Countries would have to if they came here.
Growth Of The Economy
The Labour Government should build the economy without burdening the British Citizens with high taxes, who are currently suffering due to the increased cost of living. They should tax those who can afford to pay instead. Instead of taxing the workers more, they should leave more money in their pockets, they would then buy products for their homes and their Families.
It is better to Stimulate Growth by giving Families more money to spend rather than the alternative of Suffocating Growth by raising taxes. British Citizens will have more to spend, which they will spend on their homes, their Families and themselves.
By stimulating growth, the Government can then plan ahead. On Policies that will benefit Britain.
For example by planning to ensure that everyone has a home that they can afford, where they have the opportunities that have been denied for so many by previous Governments. They can achieve this by using empty stock.
In the UK, there are a substantial number of empty homes, with estimates ranging from 700,000 to over 1 million, including those classified as long-term vacant (empty for more than six months). These figures represent a significant portion of the housing stock, with one in every 25 homes in England being empty, according to

This issue is particularly concerning given the ongoing housing crisis and the number of people experiencing homelessness or living in temporary accommodation.
Key Details:
Numbers:
There are nearly 700,000 empty and unfurnished homes in England, with over 265,000 of those being long-term vacant.
Impact: This vacant housing stock is a waste, especially considering the high number of people experiencing homelessness or living in temporary, often poor-quality, accommodations.
Local Authority Action:
Local authorities can use measures like Empty Dwelling Management Orders (EDMOs) to bring long-term vacant properties back into use as housing.
Government Policy:
Policies like the New Homes Bonus scheme have aimed to incentivise bringing empty properties back into use, but the issue persists.
Causes:
Empty homes can result from various factors, including probate processes after an owner's death, reluctance to sell or rent out properties, and other complexities.
Regional Differences:
While the problem exists across the UK, vacancy rates can vary by region and property type.
There are nearly 700,000 homes in England that are unfurnished and standing empty. Over 265,000 of these are classed as ‘long-term empty’. When we add in holiday short-lets and second homes, total vacancy sits at over 1 million homes, meaning that across England, 1 in every 25 homes is empty.
This is wasted housing stock that urgently needs to be recycled.
In the midst of a housing crisis, we cannot afford to waste homes. In England, over 300,000 people are trapped in often poor quality, insecure Temporary Accommodation, whilst many more rough sleep.
Bringing empty homes back into use is far more environmentally friendly than building equivalent new build homes. It’s time for action on empty homes.
These Empty homes should be refurbished and brought back into use. They should then be given to homeless people who are living on the street, including Veterans and those who are in temporary accommodation, often with young children and who sometimes have to move around frequently, which can impact the schooling of children from 5 to 18 years old. They shouldn’t be used to house Migrants, because the Homeless and Veterans who have lived in the UK all their lives, Families with no permanent home, should be given Priority and others who are on the waiting lists across the UK who are British Citizens. (Long-term indigenous to the UK).
But they the Government also need to cost all their plans properly
They should not resort to borrowing money; this country cannot afford to borrow more money as the previous government did with their unworkable plans. The Country is in enough debt already. And is paying back the debt with high interest payments.
In the financial year 2024-2025, the UK public sector borrowed £148.3 billion, and net interest payments on the national debt were expected to cost £105.2 billion, according to the Office for Budget Responsibility. This borrowing figure is £3.7 billion lower than the initial estimate, reports the Office for National Statistics
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Borrowing:
The UK public sector's borrowing in the financial year ending March 2025 was £148.3 billion. This is higher than the previous year's borrowing of £137.3 billion, according to the Office for Budget Responsibility.
Debt Interest:
Net interest payments on the national debt are projected to reach £105.2 billion in 2024-25.
Debt:
Public sector net debt at the end of March 2025 was equivalent to 95.8% of the annual value of everything produced in the UK economy, according to the Office for National Statistics. This is similar to the previous year's level.

The Labour Government should make sure that everything they do makes everyone equal so that everyone has a chance for a brighter future.
The millions of people who have been left behind by our broken economies need solutions, not scapegoats. a new common sense approach to Governments should start by managing our economies so that they work for the majority and not just the fortunate few.”
End the extreme concentration of wealth to end poverty. Governments should increase taxes on both wealth and high incomes to ensure a more level playing field, and to generate funds needed to invest in healthcare, education and job creation. They should build the economy without burdening the British Citizens with high taxes, who are currently suffering due to the increased cost of living. Tax those who can afford to pay instead.
If they do the following and keep to what they said they will achieve in their 2024 Manifesto, they will earn the trust of the British People.
Below are the promises made in the
Labour Manifesto in 2024
Labour’s first steps:
Deliver Economic Stability with tough spending rules, so we can grow our economy and keep taxes, inflation and mortgages as low as possible.
1# Cut NHS waiting times
By having 40,000 more appointments each week, during evenings and weekends, paid for by cracking down on tax avoidance and non-dom loopholes.
The Labour Government have started to sort out the NHS, but time will tell if the progress made will continue. I have been informed that there have been some glitches with going digital with NHS Care, namely Prescriptions that patients have to re-order every month for ongoing Health Conditions. Where there is a Communication breakdown between the Surgeries and the Chemist getting the Prescriptions.
2# Launch A New Border Security Command
With hundreds of new specialist investigators and use counter-terror powers to smash criminal boat gangs.
The Home Office says the new Border Security Command, which Labour pledged in its manifesto to “create”, will “deepen ties between international and cross-government partners to disrupt the activity of people-smuggling gangs and ensure those profiting from it face justice”.
In a statement to Parliament on 22 July 2024, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said the unit “will bring together the work of the Border Force, the National Crime Agency the small boats operational command and intelligence and security officers”.
Some of the Boat Gangs have been arrested, but others are quickly replacing them. The Government should not just concentrate on the Boat Gangs. So they need to remove the Migrants that are coming across in droves.
If necessary use the Navy to stop them at Sea and turn them around it will then show the Migrants coming across that they will be stopped and will not complete their journey so they will go back to their Country of Origin or seek Refuge in a Country near to their original Country of Origin, which is far safer than coming across by Boat and paying the People Smugglers. Who will realise that they won't be getting paid when the Migrants start to turn back, to go home.
Or they will not achieve Two of the the FIVE Missions to Re-Build Britain
# 1) Kickstart economic growth
# 3) Take back our streets
They promised the Citizens of Britain.
As the Invasion by Migrants is increasing and if they don't return the Migrants to their Country of Origin it won't just affect the Economy as it is increasing the debt the country owes and thus increasing the interest payments due to the increased spend on Housing in Hotels and other expenses incurred and the payments they give to the Migrants.
And the Government's plan to house them in Private Rented Housing? It will probably cost even more, as many of them won't have a full-time legal job and pay tax. So they will be paying out benefits, Housing, Council Tax and other payments for Food etc, for each Migrant who comes to the UK and gets Asylum and their Family if they manage to get them over to the UK. If a migrant has been granted asylum in the UK, their immediate family members (spouse or partner and minor children) may be able to apply for family reunion to join them. The family members must apply separately using the online form on the government's website. Evidence of the family relationship and the refugee's status will be required. Which will place more strain on the British Economy as every Migrant who comes over on the Boats will probably want to send for at least 4 Family Members, so for every boat that has 100 Men, up to an extra 400 Migrants will come to the UK and expect to be housed in Social Housing or Private Housing, which means the Government will increase Taxes at the expense of the Tax Payer. Taxing hard working peoples pay packets and probably increaing Council Tax and Water Rates to cover the extra costs of letting more Migrants into the Country. When they came across Legally, we could control the Influx of those who came across and make proper checks on their Health and Criminal Records Checks. They were also self-funding and found legal employment and a place to live.
Also, the fact that the majority are probably not qualified to work in the Care Sector, Nursing, etc or have Criminal Records, or can't speak English, so they will probably end up on Benefits,
Which means it will make it more difficult to achieve the other missions it promised the British Citizens in its Manifesto.
And if the Government breaks another promise to the British Citizens, "Not to increase taxes
Labour’s pre-Budget message was that anticipated tax rises would not fall on working people.
Rachel Reeves’s manifesto promise was not to raise the three main personal taxes (income tax, national insurance and VAT), thus not raising taxes on ‘workers’ directly. Or is that going to be yet another U-Turn?
What they could not make clear, however, was the definition of a ‘working person’, with those deriving their income from owning assets or investments largely excluded from this description.
Rachel Reeves’s manifesto promise was not to raise the three main personal taxes (income tax, national insurance and VAT), thus not raising taxes on ‘workers’ directly.
So the Government Needs To Stop the following incentives that are encouraging more Illegal Migrants to come across
So they should stop the following...It will save Millions.
Housing the Migrants
Who are currently living in fancy 4/5 star Hotels. They should just be housed in a Reception Centre Close to the Port where they came in. And shut down the Hotels. (The owners shouldn’t be given any more money to refurbish their Hotels, after they shut down the hotels. They have been given enough money already.)
And instead of giving Asylum to the Illegal Migrants, the Government should make serious Plans to come out of the ECHR and also Serious Talks and Plans with the French to actually assist us properly, as they conveniently forgot to mention a law that supposedly stopped them from stopping the Migrants at Sea. But they still accepted Millions of pounds and didn't achieve much in stopping the Migrants, and they also didn't close their borders sufficiently as Poland has done. So they owe us, and should assist us in sending back ALL THE Illegal Migrants who are in the UK and those still in their Country.
Stop giving them three meals a day
For Food, they should just open supervised Soup Kitchens and hand out water.
Don’t give them freebies at the expense of taxpayers.
As we aren't given Any Freebies.
Stop Giving the Migrants Free Days Out.
Don't give them Mobile Phones. If they have disposed of their Mobile Phone at the same time as they threw away anything that could identify them into the Sea, then they can do without a phone. It will also mean they can't contact others from their Country to send them photos and messages.
Stop giving them expensive Gaming Consoles, etc...
This will save a lot of money, which is currently being paid at this moment in time.
Cost Of Housing, Feeding Migrants, Healthcare...
As of today, since the first Migrants came across to the UK from the beginning of 2018 to the present date, the amount spent on Migrants who have come across to the UK illegally by Boat stands at...
The cost of illegal migration to the UK via small boats is substantial, with annual costs reaching billions of pounds.
Cumulative Arrivals: Since 2018, approximately 85,000 people have arrived in the UK via small boats.
Backlog: The large number of asylum claims has created a significant backlog in the system, with over 160,000 cases pending.
The Asylum System:
Which includes costs related to processing these arrivals, is estimated to cost the UK taxpayer £3 billion annually.
Specifically, the daily cost of cost of housing asylum seekers in hotels has risen to £5.6 million a day, according to Migration Watch UK.
Illegal Migrants are also breaking
the following laws below:
Individuals crossing the English Channel in small boats without permission are breaking UK immigration laws, specifically by entering the country without valid leave to enter or remain.
They are also likely violating laws related to illegal entry under the Immigration Act 1971. Additionally, new legislation, such as the Illegal Migration Act 2023, aims to deter dangerous crossings and prevent those arriving illegally from claiming asylum or remaining in the UK.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
1: Illegal Entry:
The Immigration Act 1971 makes it an offence to enter the UK without permission.
2: Evasion of Control:
Small boat crossings are often an attempt to evade border controls, which is also a violation.
3: Breaching Immigration Rules:
The Illegal Migration Act 2023 makes it so that those who arrive in the UK illegally are not allowed to claim asylum or remain in the country, effectively deeming their entry a breach of immigration rules.
4: Dangerous Journeys:
The new Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill introduces an offence for endangering others during illegal crossings.
#3 Great British Energy
A publicly-owned clean power company, to cut bills for good and boost energy security, paid for by a windfall tax on oil and gas giants. They should use what we already have in the North Sea... so we don't have to rely on anyone else to supply us with energy.
Make Britain a clean energy superpower
To cut bills, create jobs and deliver security with cheaper, zero-carbon electricity by 2030, accelerating to net zero.
Chris Stark to lead Mission Control to deliver clean power by 2030. See the link below at the end of this blog.
On 9 July 2024 The Labour Government announced that it has launched a first-of-its-kind Mission Control for Clean Power.
On 25 July 2024 The Labour Government introduced the Great British Energy Bill in Parliament, which will set up Great British Energy (GBE) – a new publicly-owned energy production company headquartered in Scotland – which will develop, own and operate clean power projects, investing in partnership with the private sector.
#4 Crackdown on antisocial behaviour
With more neighbourhood police paid for by ending wasteful contracts, tough new penalties for offenders, and a new network of youth hubs.
New powers to clamp down on anti-social behaviour
New Respect Orders will see repeat perpetrators of anti-social behaviour subject to tough restrictions on their behaviour. Check out the link at the end of this blog for information on the New powers to clamp down on anti-social behaviour.
Take back our streets
By halving serious violent crime and raising confidence in the police and criminal justice system to its highest levels.
The plans form part of the government's mission to take back our streets by halving serious violent crime and raising confidence in the police and criminal justice system. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said: “Southport suffered a horrific attack that no community should ever have to face.
Criminals intent on causing violence and unrest on our streets will be stopped in their tracks thanks to a new National Violent Disorder Programme, the Prime Minister has announced on 1st of August 2024 See the link to more information at he end of this blog.
#5 Recruit 6,500 new teachers in key subjects
To set children up for life, work, and the future, paid for by ending tax breaks for private schools.
Labour’s manifesto states: “We will get more teachers into shortage subjects, support areas that face recruitment challenges, and tackle retention issues.”
On 8 July 2024 The department announced that it would relaunch and “expand” its main teacher recruitment campaign, “Every Lesson Shapes a Life”, as part of its efforts to recruit an additional 6,500 new teachers. In addition, the government announced in May 2025 that it would shorten the duration of postgraduate teaching apprenticeships, a key route into the profession, from 12 months to nine, in a bid to drive up the number of teachers in schools.
Education secretary Bridget Phillipson has said that the government was aiming to achieve the specific target of recruiting an additional 6,500 new teachers “over the course of the parliament”.
I haven't found any data on new teacher recruitment from July 2024 to the present date of 3rd of July 2025 so far, but Labour have only been in Power since 4th July 2024. They said they would recruit more teachers by the end of this Parliament. It remains to be seen whether they will achieve their target of 6,500 new teachers in key subjects. Work In Progress
First Steps
To make Britain Great again, we need to budget.
To do this we need to leave the ECHR as it is out of date and the UK left the European Union on January 31, 2020 so that we could make our own laws without been restricted by burecratic rules made by someone in another Country who doesn’t have to live with and suffer the consequences and the impact it has on the lives of the British Citizens.
This event, known as Brexit, was a result of a referendum held in June 2016 where a majority of voters (51.9%) chose to leave the EU. Following the referendum, the UK negotiated its withdrawal from the EU, culminating in a formal exit on the stated date.
Withdrawal Agreement: The UK's exit from the EU was formalized through the Withdrawal Agreement, which entered into force on January 31, 2020.
So we need to leave the ECHR so we aren't bound by its rules, which would mean we could deport people who we didn't want in the UK.
We need to start by improving the Economy by removing the Migrants who have come to the UK in the last 5 years from 1st January 2018 to the Current date, which the British Taxpayer is paying for.
Moving them on to Private Rented accommodation or Social Housing won’t work as it will just spread them across all of the UK’s Town, Cities, Villagers. It will also cost us more in the long run as the Men who have come to the UK will expect us to bring their Families over, which will increase the cost to the Benefits System with Housing Benefit, etc…
Since the Mass Invasion of Illegal Immigrants began, as well as the increase in housing costs of Housing Migrants and other living costs.
We need to send back all Migrants who came to the UK since 2018, starting with the Migrants who came across this year.
Then start sending back Migrants who came across since the beginning of 2018 to the end of 2024.
As we can't afford to look after them as most of the Migrants that come across to the UK will either end up on benefits or get jobs on the Black Market, when they are given Asylum so they won't pay any tax. and the Illegal Migrants in the Hotels won't be working as they can't work for a year.
The British Citizen didn’t ask for them to come to the UK and change our Country and be given Homes etc, as soon as they come here, whilst those who have lived here all their lives and paid taxes are pushed to the back of the queue.
The money we are spending on the Migrants needs to be redirected to renovating or rebuilding homes that we currently have lying empty in the UK which could be given to those who are having to stay in cramped living conditions, in Bedsits, Small Flats, sometimes hotels with their families, having to eat in one room, or in Cafe’s etc and share a bathroom/toilet with other Families because they can’t get a house on Social Housing….
It will also place an ever increasing strain on the infrastructure of the entire UK.
NHS The more people who come to the UK unchecked who have no employment and who haven’t contributed any taxes to the Country at any time, will also have a major impact on our NHS
Police We have also had an increase in Crime across the Country. Due to the increase in certain crimes, Rape, Knife Crime etc.
Schools As Class sizes increase which will affect our Children’s Education and their future life when they eventually leave school and go out to work or onto further education.
It will place added strain on the internet, Energy-Electric & Gas. Also our Roads in our Villages, Town’s and Cities and our Motorways will also suffer.
Our Economy will take a massive hit, due to the ever increasing load that has been placed on it, which will continue to increase if the Migrant Situation isn’t turned around immediately.
We need to turn this Country around for the British Citizens who are here legally and have not come to the UK in boats supplied by Criminals…. People Smugglers who they have paid money to. And there will also be some who had their passage to get to the UK paid for.
STOP HOUSING MIGRANTS IN HOTELS
If we stopped paying for the Illegal Immigrants and didn’t put them through the Asylum system. And if we came out of the ECHR, from what I have been told, it would be easier to deport someone who has come into the Country illegally, without permission to enter.
We couldn't put them all into Reception Centres and process them and send them back to their Country Of Origin. Via France, if possible, as they have not stopped them from coming to the UK, they have nursed them across the sea. Or watched them get into boats and do nothing. They were paid enough to stop them.
Also, they could have closed their Borders and Policed them like Poland has done. It was also in their interests to stop the Migrants and turn them back to their Country of origin.
Or if they refuse to or don’t actively stop them from coming across to the UK, by firing on the boats when empty, so they can’t be used. While the Migrants are getting into the Taxi Boats, the People Smugglers are putting them on. We could deploy our own Navy to protect our Shores to stop them from coming to our Beaches and Ports. As they stop the Russian Ships when they get too close to British Shores.
But they shouldn’t bring them onto the Ship or to our Shores and Ports, they should just be turned around and pushed over to French waters. If they do manage to sneak past, they should be put on an old empty ship and arrangements made for their Countries to pick them up, at their expense.
What has Kier Starmer & Labour achieved in the last 3 months of Labour's 1st Year in power?
The cost-of-living pressures continue to worry ordinary British Voters.
**While Businesses have to reckon with Labour LedTaxes.
Businesses face various labour taxes, including employer National Insurance contributions, income tax (through PAYE), and potentially other levies like the apprenticeship levy. These taxes can impact a company's financial health, affecting hiring decisions, wage growth, and overall economic expansion, particularly for smaller businesses.
So we could see closures of the businesses hit hardest by the national insurance hike. Such as those people working in nurseries, retail, hospitality, care and small businesses.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced in the October budget that employers will have to pay a 15% rate of national insurance contributions (NIC) on their employees from today, up from 13.8%.
She also lowered the threshold at which employers pay NIC from £9,100 a year to £5,000 a year, meaning they start paying at an earlier point on staff salaries.
This is on top of the national minimum wage rising, the business relief rate for hospitality, retail and leisure reducing from 75% to 40% and the rising cost of ingredients and services.
Rachel Reeves said the move would raise £25bn per year by 2029, adding that she did not "take this decision lightly". But this means that hitting businesses in the pocket would also mean taking money from the pockets of the British Public, as prices will have to be increased to account for the increased costs in expenditure by business to account for this. Which could mean having to let staff go ....
Great British Energy
Proposals for the body were put forward by Labour in 2021 while in opposition, and the first steps to establish it were taken in late 2024 by the Starmer government. Great British Energy was formally established by the Great British Energy Act 2025, receiving royal assent on 15 May 2025.
Water industry Reform
The King’s Speech also included a Water (Special Measures) Bill to give the water regular Ofwat increased regulatory powers by: ensuring water bosses face personal criminal liability for breaches of the law;
giving Ofwat new powers to ban the payment of bonuses if environmental standards are not met; providing for a new code of conduct for water companies ‘so customers can summon board members and hold executives to account’ introducing new powers to bring ‘automatic and severe fines’; and requiring water companies to install real-time monitors at every sewage outlet with data independently scrutinised by the water regulators.
The government has said that this Bill is just a first step and that it plans to introduce separate legislation at a later stage ‘to fundamentally transform our water industry and restore our rivers, lakes and seas to good health’.
Government announces first steps to reform water sector. See the link to more information on Water at the end of this blog.
Trade Deals with the U.S and the E.U
Kier Starmer has signed Trade Deals with the U.S and the E.U that will boost British economy and wages?? But the opinion polls paint a different picture of his success.
Inflation Rate 3.5% in April 2025
Was 2.6% in March (Data from ONS) on 21.05.2025.
The Cost of Electric Gas and other fuels rose by 26.1% in the month to April, the largest monthly hike since February 1988 (Data from ONS).
**British businesses now face higher taxes as a result of government policies which were introduced in the autumn Budget.
Also a limit on Foreign workers from the EU
Rises in the minimum wage rates.
Reforms to Workers rights.
Those on unemployment and reduced unemployment figures.
Trade deals promising economic growth and investment which will take time to feed through are cold comfort to British Consumers and many Businesses struggling at the moment.
The Chagos Island Deal
28 May 2025 — In exchange, the UK will be able to continue using the largest island as a military base for the next 99 years.
UK signs deal to hand over control of Chagos Islands
The deal involves leasing back a crucial military base on Diego Garcia, the largest of the Chagos Islands, for 99 years.
The UK has signed a long-awaited deal to hand control of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius.
It means Britain will give up sovereignty of the Indian Ocean territory and lease back the vital UK-US Diego Garcia military base - at a cost of billions of pounds to the taxpayer.
In a news conference, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said the base is of the "utmost significance to Britain", having been used to deploy aircraft to "defeat terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan", and "anticipate threats in the Red Sea and the Indo-Pacific".
He said the base was under threat because of Mauritius's legal claim on the Chagos Islands, which has been recognised by multiple international courts.
"If we did not agree to this deal, the legal situation would mean that we would not be able to prevent China or any other nation from setting up their own bases on the outer islands, or carrying out joint exercises near our base," Sir Keir said.
"We would have to explain to you, the British people and to our allies, that we'd lost control of this vital asset.
The deal means the UK will lease the base from the Mauritian government over 99 years.
Confusion over costs
Sir Keir said the average cost per year is £101m but the net overall cost is £3.4bn, not £10bn, and all public sector projects are measured in net costs.
Sovereignty row
The Chagos Archipelago was separated from Mauritius by the UK in 1965, when Mauritius was a British colony.
Mauritius gained independence from the UK in 1968 and since then has been trying to claim the archipelago as Mauritian.
In the late 1960s, the US asked the UK to expel everyone from the archipelago so they could build a naval support facility on the largest island, Diego Garcia. It is leased to the US but operates as a joint UK-US base.
The UK has been under pressure to hand back control of the territory, after the UN and the International Court of Justice sided with Mauritius.
The treaty said the deal would "complete the process of decolonisation of Mauritius".
Tory leader Kemi Badenoch said that "surrendering" the Chagos Islands to Mauritius "is an act of national self-harm".
"It leaves us more exposed to China, and ignores the will of the Chagossian people. And we're paying billions to do so," she said.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage echoed those comments, accusing Sir Keir of caring more about foreign courts "than Britain's national interest".

MPs have voted to decriminalise abortion in England and Wales.
The amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill, abolishing the prosecution of women for terminating their pregnancy at any stage, passed by 379 votes to 137.
It represents the biggest shake-up in reproductive rights for almost 60 years.
Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi, who tabled the so-called "New Clause One" (NC1), said it would ensure women do not face investigation, arrest, prosecution or imprisonment in relation to any pregnancies.
She said the current "Victorian" laws had been used against vulnerable women, citing cases such as Nicola Packer, who was prosecuted on suspicion of having an illegal abortion. She was found not guilty in May.
"Nicola's story is deplorable, but there are many others," Ms Antoniazzi said.
Abortion in England and Wales is currently a criminal offence but is legal with an authorised provider for up to 24 weeks after conception. The procedure is allowed after this time in very limited circumstances.
It is also legal to take prescribed related medication at home if a woman is less than 10 weeks pregnant.
Ms Antoniazzi said NC1 was "a narrow, targeted measure" that would not change how abortion services were provided or the rules under
the 1967 Abortion Act. She said: "The 24 [week] limit remains. Abortions still require the approval of signatures of two doctors, and women would still have to meet the grounds laid out in the Act."
The MP said that meant healthcare professionals "acting outside the law and abusive partners using violence or poisoning to end a pregnancy would still be criminalised, as they are now."
She added: "This piece of legislation will only take women out of the criminal justice system because they are vulnerable and they need our help.
"As I have said before, and I will say it again, just what public interest is this serving? This is not justice, it is cruelty and it has got to end."
Conservative MP Sir Edward Leigh, speaking against both amendments, described them as "not pro-woman" and argued they "would introduce sex-selective abortion".
Grooming Gangs
Baroness Casey was asked to produce an audit of sexual abuse carried out by grooming gangs in England and Wales in January, when comments by tech billionaire Elon Musk brought the scandal back into the spotlight.
The Labour government initially resisted calls from the Tories for a national inquiry into grooming gangs, saying they wanted to focus on implementing the recommendations of the former child sex abuse inquiry by Professor Alexis Jay, who criticises the "weaponisation of the issue.
Professor Alexis Jay's seven-year review into child abuse.
The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA), led by Prof. Alexis Jay, is investigating the extent to which institutions in England and Wales ...
The head of the seven-year-long probe told MPs she had been met with a "long silence" from the Home Office after publishing recommendations to tackle the issue in October 2022.
So here is a Monthly timeline of what the Labour Government
has done under Kier Starmer

1# Cut NHS Waiting Times | With a total of 3 million additional appointments already delivered 6 months early, the government is exceeding its targets and driving down waiting lists at pace, which have fallen for 6 months in a row and by 219,000 since July 2024. #Build an NHS fit for the future
That is there when people need the NHS; with fewer lives lost to the biggest killers; in a fairer Britain, where everyone lives well for longer.
With a total of 3 million additional appointments already delivered 6 months early, the government is exceeding its targets and driving down waiting lists at pace, which have fallen for 6 months in a row and by 219,000 since July 2024.
Reform of NHS App stops 1.5 million hospital appointments from being missed, saving 5.7 million staff hours since July 2024.
Millions of patients are benefiting from greater choice and flexibility in the way they access healthcare as the Prime Minister welcomes a major milestone in the rollout of the NHS App today (28 April 2025).
Making sure patients get greater power over how and when they can book their treatments and appointments is at the heart of the government’s plans to end hospital backlogs and improve care through the Plan for Change.
Users can manage appointments, view prescriptions, access their GP health record and receive notifications at the touch of a button, reducing stress on healthcare services and providing easier access to information and services.
The government has exceeded its first target under the plan, to increase the number of hospitals allowing patients to view appointment information on the app up to 85% by the end of March 2025 - reaching 87%, up from 68% in July 2024.
What has Kier Starmer & Labour done In their 1st Year In Government
04.07.24 to 03.07.2025 inc
Has Kier Starmer kept his promises one year on?
Missions In the Manifesto:
Growth…
Labours Manifesto promises that they will ensure that the UK achieve the Highest Growth in The G7 group of advanced countries,
UK had the 3rd highest rate at 0.8%
Canada had the highest rate at 1.7%
U.S.A had the second highest at 1.2%
G7 Average is 1.0%
Kickstart economic growth
To secure the highest sustained growth in the G7 – with good jobs and productivity growth in every part of the country making everyone, not just a few, better off.
Labour’s manifesto didn’t specify what timeframe it expects to deliver this pledge within, or what it means by “sustained” growth. We asked the Treasury about this in October and November 2024, and again in March 2025, when it directed us to then-Treasury minister Tulip Siddiq’s answer to a question about the Plan for Change, in which she said: “We aim to have the highest growth in the G7 by the end of the parliament, measured using estimates of real terms Gross Domestic Product per capita”. But they have been in Power for a year. They have 4 more years to achieve this goal.
Support companies that benefit their workers and society
Rather than just their shareholders. Companies should be owned by their workers and not by Shareholders who are only interested in making a quick buck rather than helping the company to thrive and grow, thus benefiting the Company and their workers who own the company. The profits of the company are not paid to any offshore accounts in a tax scam.
So currently this Target is a Fail.

In December Kier Starmer added another Pledge
Raising Livng Standards
To Do that the line for Disposable Income needs to be in Positive Territory (above the red area) (since the Second World War has always happened at the end of Parliament) this Target is Easy.

Target: 18 Week Waits For NHS Operations.
Promise no Patient should wait more than 18 weeks from referral to treatment.
Operations taking place more than 18 weeks after Consultation referral.
Target 8% Since the election there has been a little drop, so the Government would say they are on course to reach their and that the rate of improvement will accellerate, but we will have to watch and wait as only time will tell…

Target: Smash The Criminal Boat Gangs
Number of Migrants arriving to the UK on small boats.
Year To July 2025 43,482 check figure against mine
The figure of 43,482 small boat migrants arriving in the UK to July 2025 is incorrect.
Home Office figures show that nearly 20,000 migrants arrived in the first six months of 2025. Specifically, 19,982 migrants crossed the Channel in small boats between January and June 2025, according to the BBC. The first six months of 2025 saw a 48% increase compared to the same period in 2024
To the Current date, Sunday 06th July 2025, Migrants: 21,117 in 362 Boats.

Target: Halve Serious Violent Crime over a Decade
Violent crimes recorded by police in England & Wales, rolling annual sum.
Target by year 2034, around the Million mark from 2 Million when Labour was Elected in July 2024, started to reduce but now its stagnated, which could be due to the increase in Migrants coming across by boat and comitting violent crimes. Fail.
Source: Home Office Date: to 31 December 2024.
Target: 1.5 Million New Homes
New EPS’s granted between July 2024 and 31st March 2025
Target: by July 2029, 1,500,000. Not on track at this time as only 151,143 in total have been achieved so far. Data from 2009
Shows it never been achieved from beginning of 2009 to 2024 when Labour came into power July 2024 to 31st March 2025, current projections show its currently falling, its way off target, Government say building will pick up over time, but why build new when there are plenty of Empty Homes (See link at end of this blog) that could be refurbished and that would be a better option. Will Kier Starmer deliver on everything he promised
on entering No 10
The Prime Minister now has no money to allocate at the present, before the next election, or he wouldn’t need to increase taxes, which he promised not to do in his Manifesto.
Foreign Policy seems to dominate his agenda he needs to spend more time in the UK and be their for the British People and not the Migrants, but who have come across on the boats illegally, supplied by Criminals, who aren’t contributing to the economy but are basically causing unrest and draining the Country’s Coffers the British Citizens contributed to.
He keeps saying things will get better. How?
If he increases taxes, the British Citizens will go against him. He is already on shaky ground as the British Public think that he is only bothered about the EU and the he doesn’t seem to have a viable Plan to stop the Migrants coming across from France, he needs to get tougher with the French Government as we have already paid them Millions since the Migrant Invasion began. We have a Navy he could use to stop them at Sea just inside our boundary. They could put the Migrants in old Naval Vessels and process them if they have to, or just be there to stop them and turn them back to France. And if the ECHR is stopping them from doing this, come out of the ECHR and make our own laws. We could then deport those who have come across from France in the last few years. Seeing migrants coming back to French shores will give other Migrants and the Smuggling Gangs a message that we will turn you back, and the Migrants & the People Smugglers will realise they can’t get to the UK.
Labour Party has to get their “House In Order” The Prime Minister is the one who should communicate to the Citizens of Britain where the UK is going, his team should be looking after the UK and fixing problems. Letting the Prime Minister know how the General Public feels, ADD PREV INFO… Basically, Labour needs to listen and
start by...
Removing the Major financial drain on the British Economy, which isn’t contributing to the Growth of Britain.
They can start with removing every Migrant who has come across illegally, and send back all those in our Prisons to their Country of origin.
And this will also help to address other problems in other areas, such as the rise in Violent Crime Rates, The Strain on Britain's Infrastructure, and the Debt Britain has borrowed, rising along with the interest rate on top of that debt.
Britain will be Richer, and the Citizens of Britain will feel safer and happier.
They will be able to look forward to a brighter future.
